Ozone Park is a community located in the southwest part of Queens, New York City. Adjacent to the Aqueduct Racetrack in South Ozone Park, it’s a well-known location for Thoroughbred racing and houses the Resorts World Casino & Hotel. While historically dominated by an Italian-American populace, the neighborhood now boasts a diverse mix of Caribbean, Hispanic, and Asian residents.
Though New York City neighborhoods lack official borders, Ozone Park is generally perceived to be bounded by Atlantic Avenue to the north, North Conduit Avenue to the south, the Brooklyn/Queens line to the west, and extends eastward to 108th Street and the Aqueduct Racetrack.
Before Ozone Park existed, an area within its current boundaries was known as “Centreville.” Ozone Park was established in the 1840s. The neighborhood’s heart was around Centreville Street and the Centreville Community Church. A section of Ozone Park still retains the “Centreville” name today.

Ethnically Rich

According to 2010 United States Census data, Ozone Park recorded a population of 21,376, marking a 1.5% increase from the 2000 count of 21,052. The neighborhood spans 576.32 acres (233.23 ha). The area’s population density was 37.1 people per acre or 23,700 per square mile (9,200/km^2). Regarding racial composition, 30.5% were White, 5.6% were African American, 0.4% Native American, 19.4% Asian, 0.0% Pacific Islander, 2.6% belonged to other races, and 3.6% identified with two or more races. Furthermore, 37.9% of the residents were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Transportation

Several New York City Bus routes serve the region, including the Q7, Q8, Q11, Q21, Q24, Q41, Q52 SBS, Q53 SBS, and Q112. The B15 traverses the neighborhood without making stops. The New York City Subway’s IND Fulton Street Line (A train) and IND Rockaway Line (A train) also pass through the area.

For the youngest learners, PS 63 Old South School and PS 316 Queens Explorers Elementary School offer classes from Pre-K through 5th grade, along with special education programs. PS 64 Joseph P. Addabbo School and PS 65 The Raymond York Elementary School also serve students from Kindergarten to 5th grade, with PS 64 providing special education.
